With a goal of creating restful, noise-free environments for her clients to rejuvenate their energies, Edith Derlong founded EsionX, the Monaco-based construction and renovation company that uses patented soundproofing technology, never before available. Read backwards, EsionX spells “X-noise,” defining the company’s brand which incorporates Ms. Derlong’s innovative expertise with architectural interior design.
“I developed EsionX to create serene environments for my client where they can spend time recharging their batteries from their fast-paced lives,” says Edith. “Our exclusive product line provides unequalled soundproofing and insulation from noise and vibrations caused by traffic, construction, dogs barking, or noisy neighbors. In addition, it improves the energy flow to efficiently maintain the interior temperature level, decreasing energy expenses. With the product installed into flooring, walls, windows and ceilings, it creates a healthier, ‘greener’ environment that preserves privacy and enhances restful sleep and healing.”
When it is introduced to the building trade, Edith anticipates it will be widely used in industrial, commercial and residential buildings.
Edith’s design career began at the age of ten when she set her heart on a red carpet for her room in her family’s Goteberg, Sweden apartment. When her mother left the house, she measured her room, purchased the carpet, and when it was delivered by taxi, had her neighbors help her move the furniture and set it up before her mother came home.
Years later, while living in New York to study acting, Edith began researching ways to create soundproofing for people living in apartments after discovering the constant noise level to be distracting. Ten years later, while providing her trademark interior design work for the renovation of wealthy homeowners, her product line began to take shape. And in July 2010, she opened the doors of EsionX in Monte Carlo designing living and work spaces in existing buildings that enhance ‘the art of living.’
Edith brings into her work for each project a team of multi-disciplinary, luxury design experts whom she manages while providing expertise in the selection of colors, fabrics, furniture and flooring that meets her clients’ personalities and needs. Currently, the team is building a spectacular, 100 square meter spa for a luxury home. The entire spa, consisting of a gym, Jacuzzi, steam room and massage room, will be soundproofed with her patented EsionX product and is set for completion July 3, 2012.
“What I find most interesting,” says Edith, “is getting to know my clients’ personalities, styles and thoughts, and then finding ways to make their living quarters work better for their lifestyles.” She adds, “I love my clients, I love my work, and I love having new challenges to resolve for my clients. It keeps me motivated and helps my team stay on their toes.”
Recently, Edith made a name for herself creating a $1.3 million diamond and pearl-studded bed designed to match its owner’s exclusive jewelry. Known as one of the world’s most expensive beds, Edith’s project combines comfort and refined beauty with an internal heating element that promotes relaxation and healing.
In Monaco, she’s found that most people are looking for the best quality of life, whether it’s in the 365 days of sunshine a year, its beautiful beaches or snow-topped mountains for skiing. Of primary importance is the ability to enjoy one’s home environment and to be able to look forward to peace and beauty in that space. To that end, Edith is able to provide that dream and to gear it to the client’s tastes and needs.
Having had success in her business, Edith is now moving forward with her dream to establish a children’s foundation which will help children in orphanages find their natural-born talents. Named The Fishing Rod (www.thefishingrod.com) from the old adage about the value of teaching a person to fish, Edith looks forward to giving children a chance to help themselves.
“I think everybody has a talent; it’s just a matter of finding out what that talent is,” states Edith. “My foundation will give children the opportunity to try different jobs while teaching them skills so they can decide what their future will be. I believe if you have to work for something, it’s more meaningful than just being served,” says Edith, summarizing her own experience.
