Yaakov G. Vanek is a Managing Director at the Greater Los Angeles firm Fallbrook Capital Securities Corporation, member FINRA/SIPC. Yaakov is well known for his expertise in financing difficult, unique and special out-of-the-box situations with rich and creative solutions, stemming from his background in law and finance. In reference to his contributions to the firm, Fallbrook Capital received the prestigious “Private Company Investment Banker of the Year Award” in November 2014 after being selected out of 3,000 private companies for helping more companies obtain competitive market bids than any other investment banking firm.
Yaakov brings to Fallbrook a distinguished career in finance, law and investment banking. His financing expertise includes raising debt and equity capital for unique or special situations companies and providing restructuring and acquisitions for start-ups, middle market companies, and those publicly traded on the NASDAQ. Additionally, he has an in-depth understanding of the financing needs of companies engaged in technology, financial services, media, healthcare, energy, manufacturing, retail and real estate.
He also offers expertise in conducting corporate mergers and acquisitions. One of his most recent accomplishments was in leading the sales of an international technology firm, with offices in the U.S., China and Korea, and a domestic healthcare service company to a private equity firm.
Yaakov has close to 20 years of experience working with private equity firms as both a principal investor in, and advisor for, a wide array of investments in the fields of technology, media, energy, healthcare and retail. Prior to joining Fallbrook, he served as General Counsel for a prominent private equity firm in Los Angeles, where he led the successful acquisition and subsequent operation of a chain of retail stores in the Southern California area.
Previously, he served as Director of Business Development and General Counsel for the private equity division of a prominent Latin American firm with offices in Mexico City, California, and Texas. Under his leadership, the firm closed a number of highly successful transactions including the acquisition of Continental Airlines by the Texas Pacific Group, the acquisition of Westin Hotels by the Starwood Group, and the development of several hundred stores for the Blockbuster Video chain in Mexico and Brazil.
Earlier in his career, Yaakov founded his own investment banking firm which raised over $500 million in private placement financing for both NASDAQ and private companies, primarily operating in the fields of healthcare, pharmaceuticals, media, and technology. Most notable among those were EarthLink, Inc., Sonic Foundry, Inc., Spectrum Pharmaceuticals, Inc., CTI Biopharma Corp., and Computer Motion, Inc. (later acquired by Intuitive Surgical, Inc.).
Mr. Vanek is a licensed real estate broker with the California Department of Real Estate and holds Financial Industry Regulatory Authority licenses: Series 7, 79, 66, 24, and 27. He is a licensed California attorney, a California Certified Public Accountant, and a graduate of the UC Berkeley Business School and the UC Berkeley Law School (Boalt Hall).
